Walker, Rebecca Lee Smashes Personal Best, 28/4/11
24 year old Rebecca Lee headed to China last week following 12 months of training with the AIS Squad in Canberra. At 9.00 am on Friday the 22 April 2011 China time 'Beki' walked 20 kilometres competing in the IAAF Race Walking Challenge in Taicang, China.   In a time of 1:35:35 she smashed her personal best time by 2 minutes, 30 seconds achieving status as a "B" qualifier for the upcoming Olympic Games in London in 2012.  She was one of a 10 strong contingent of athletes competing in China. Her time also qualifies her for the World University Games in Shenzhen, China to be held in August this year.

Beki is one of a tight knit family of ten siblings from Colo Heights in the North Western suburbs of Sydney.

Mother and proud parent, Kate, was ecstatic in hearing of the news earlier today. "Brett and I have always encouraged our children to follow their dreams and this moment is a result of the love and support from the whole family", Kate told MySportBook this morning. "I miss her every minute that she is away, but you don't achieve these things hanging around at home, we are very proud of her and can't wait to give her a big hug when she returns ".

Beki said after race, "I was feeling pretty relaxed before the race and I just wanted to do a PB. I missed the World University Games qualifier by only 16 seconds at our nationals in February, so that was my goal for this race. I just wanted to qualify, but to do a 2 and a half minute PB PLUS an Olympic B qualifier is just a massive bonus. My coach Brent Vallance of the AIS prepared me well so I owed him a good performance. I can't wait to get home to see the family", Beki said.

The London Olympics next year is the stepping stone for Beki to become an olympic champion.
